Our Administration is being run like a frat house.
The “bros” are working out and taking plunge baths in their blue jeans, inviting their “rocker” friends to speak at the Pentagon before taking them for a spin a military helicopter, and chugging beers after their team wins hockey games.
And far too many folks are acting as if it’s business as usual.
While you know that I am a progressive and have little to no admiration or appreciation for this administration, that has absolutely zero to do with this post. I wouldn’t care if it was Zohran, Obama, AOC, or Bernie heading up this thing; my viewpoint would be the same.
Why?
Because I care about people.
This isn’t about me though, it’s about the safety, security, and prosperity of this country. It’s about the impact of our government around the world and the incredible amount of harm being done to working class, vulnerable people. From those in ICE detention centers throughout this country, to those being punished for exercising their civil rights in our judicial system, to the intentional starvation of the people in Cuba, to the genocides of Palestine, Sudan, the Congo, and others… the actions of this “bro fest” is having a devastating effect across the globe.
And that’s before we even begin to talk about the war on Iran, the impact of tariffs, the loss of access to food and healthcare because of cuts to SNAP and Medicaid.
What the hell are we doing?
The House just passed an appropriations bill that takes tens of millions of dollars away from pregnant/postpartum/breastfeeding mothers and their toddlers meant to provide access to fruits and vegetables.
Who does that?
Apparently, we do.
The “greatest nation in the world”,
The “richest nation in the world”.
The “civilized western society” of the United States of America.
That’s who has decided that UFC Fights on the White House lawn deserved to be funded and honored more than veterans deserve benefits and military deserve to not die in unnecessary wars.
That’s who has decided to pardon people with convictions or pending charges of rape, sexual abuse of a minor, domestic violence, manslaughter, production of child sexual abuse material and drug trafficking.
None of what I’ve said is conjecture or hyperbole, hence the hyperlinks to the sources.
It’s a brief look at a tiny smidge of the dangers and the ridiculous that come with this administration. They aren’t just embarrassing. They have serious implications for the people and the safety/sovereignty of the country.
We might just want to do something about it.
